Men's Soccer: Instant Impact - Freshman Ties School Record In 7-0 Win

Box Score

Paxton, Mass. - Freshman Gianluca Ranallo (Scarsdale, N.Y.) tied a school-record with four assists and two others - Mike Trobagis (Acton, Mass.) and Tim Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) - each scored twice to lead an offensive explosion as the Clark University men's soccer team scored four first half goals en route to a commanding 7-0 win over Becker College in the consolation game of the Worcester City Men's Soccer Tournament on AMCAT Field on the campus of Anna Maria College on Sunday afternoon.

The four helpers for Ranallo tied a 17-year old mark set by Rensl Dillion against Worcester State during the 1992 season.

The seven goals scored are also the most since the Cougars put up seven nearly a year ago to the day against Johnson & Wales in 2008.

Clark got on the board quickly, finding the back of the net just 48 seconds in the match when Ranallo set up sophomore Trevor Hendry (Waterford, Conn.) for his first tally of the season.

Ranallo then teamed up with classmate William Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.) to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead less than 19 minutes in to the match.

Trobagis then did his damage in a short two minute span, collecting his first goal less than 30 seconds after Van Noppen's with the assist going to Ranallo, and then he registered an unassisted score just 49 seconds later to increase the Clark advantage to 4-0 midway through the first half.

Doenmez then collected the first two goals of the second half - finding the back of the net at 47:16 and 55:03. Freshman Shadoe Hanson (Kingston, Jamaica) rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with his first marker at 83:52 with help from classmate Nick Perracchio (Willington, Conn.).

Clark dominated the ball for most of the contest, outshooting the Hawks 34-4, including an astonishing 23-1 in the first 45 minutes. Meanwhile, freshman netminder Ryan King (Brimfield, Mass.) needed to just turn away two shots to record his first-ever shutout.

The Cougars (1-1) return to action on Wednesday when they visit Colby-Sawyer. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
