Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Earn CSCAA Team Academic Award

Worcester, MA - 07/13/09 - The Clark University mens and womens swimming and diving teams earned the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Team Academic Award for the Spring 2009 semester.

The Cougar women's 3.49 GPA ranked 11th in the nation for Division III, and 19th overall for NCAA swimming & diving teams including division I, II, and III. Clark was a close second to MITs 3.50 GPA, among the eight NEWMAC womens teams honored. Other NEWMAC teams earning the All-Academic award include Wheaton College (MA), Mount Holyoke College, Springfield College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Smith College, and The U.S. Coast Guard Academy

The Clark men posted a 3.06 GPA, ranking 47th out of 53 Division III teams; and third out of the four NEWMAC schools honored (MIT, WPI, U.S. Coast Guard Academy).

"I am very proud of our teams' accomplishments both in and out of the pool this past season," head coach Paul E. Phillips commented. "For our women's team to be ranked in the upper-echelon of all NCAA swimming & diving programs nationwide is a testament to their work ethic, and it speaks to the character of the types of student-athletes we've been able to attract here at Clark University."
