Clark University Alum Jeff Cohen Named Men's Lacrosse Coach

WORCESTER, MASS. - 06/30/09 - Clark University Athletic Director Linda Moulton has announced the hiring of alum Jeff Cohen '02 as the new head men's lacrosse coach, effective August 1. Cohen replaces Evan Davis who resigned in May after seven seasons.

Cohen, a standout lacrosse player at Clark and two-year captain, recently completed his fifth season as an assistant coach at Division I Colgate University in Hamilton, NY. At Colgate, he helped lead the 2008 team to its highest national ranking, 10th in the USILA poll, and first ever NCAA tournament berth. Cohen's primary responsibilities included defensive concepts and face-offs. In addition, he guided the third ranked man down defense in the country in 2008. Prior to coaching at Colgate, Cohen was an assistant football and lacrosse coach at Western New England College for one year and assistant men's lacrosse coach at MIT for one season.

"We are thrilled to have Jeff return to his alma mater to lead our mens lacrosse program," commented Moulton. "He was a very competitive and talented player when he was a Clark student-athlete and has become an equally competitive and talented coach. Jeffs understanding of Clark, knowledge of the game, and experience with a competitive Division I team will be great assets in building an exciting and successful lacrosse program."

While at Clark, Cohen tallied 133 career-points good for fourth all-time. He finished with 68 career assists, currently 3rd on the all-time list and with 120 ground balls (6th). Cohen had 42 points in 2001 which sits 10th on the all-time list for points in a season. His 20 assists in 1999 is currently eighth on the all-time list.

"I feel very fortunate to be given the opportunity to return to my alma mater and take over the lacrosse program," commented Cohen. "I called Clark University home for four years and it feels great to be back on campus. I hope I can continue the program's development and help them attain new goals in the immediate future. I want to thank Linda Moulton for her continued support in the hiring process and I am looking forward to working with the student athletes in the fall."

Cohen was named to the New England Women's and Mens Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference team twice and to the Pilgrim League All-Conference team three times. He received a Clark University Merit Award which is given annually to senior athletes who have made a significant impact in their sport and finished his career playing in the NEILA East/West All-Star game.
