Blake Earns NEWMAC Softball Honors
WORCESTER, MASS. 04/28/09 - Junior Lauren Blake earned her third New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Softball All-Star award on Tuesday. It marked her second straight appearance on the first-team and third overall selection.
One of the region's best players, Blake, an Oakland, Maine native, led the team at the plate with 122 at-bats for a team-best in hits (48), doubles (12), runs scored (24) and total bases (60) en route to a .393 batting average. She ranked atop of the league in hits (24), doubles (7), at-bats (62) and total plate appearances, and finished fourth in runs scored (14) and total bases (31) and sixth in hitting (.387) at the end of the regular season. As Clark's lead-off hitter, Blake has collected 17 multiple hit games, hit safely in 13 NEWMAC contests, and had a seven-game hit streak for a team-best .492 slugging percentage and .439 on-base percentage. The best defensive player on the team, the second-baseman recorded 111 putouts, 61 assists - 37 in the NEWMAC, which was good for fifth in the category, and yielded just six errors.
Clark finished third in the conference with a 10-6 record.
