Men's Rowing
WORCESTER, MASS. 4/7/09 - The Clark University men's and women's rowing teams opened their respective 2009 spring seasons at Lake Quinsigamond over the weekend.
On Sunday, the men's varsity four topped the field with its first place finish (7:25.1). The boat manned by Lillian Chaleff, Russell Giacobbe, Andrew Gager, Jake Hansen, Andy Newton defeated Brandeis University (2nd/7:27.5) and Bates College (3rd/7:42.6).
Clark's women's varsity four and novice four both placed fourth with times of 9:09.6 and 10:36.7, respectively. WPI won the women's varsity four race.
The men's varsity four had a rough start on Saturday, finishing fourth in a time of 7:59.4 after a collision with Connecticut Colleges foursome. However, the men's second varsity four fared well earning second place in their four-boat field. The team of Amanda McLoughlin, Russ Giacobbe, Andrew Gage, Mike Smith, Jake Hansen raced to a 7:36.4 finish, just seconds behind Amherst College (7:32.5).
On the women's side, the varsity four team of Gen DeAndelis, Katy Nowoswiat, Kasia Baca, Rachel Goldin, Sarah Shepro raced to a fifth place finish (9:57.8), while the novice eight placed third (10:21.1).
Clark will be back in action on Saturday, April 11.
