Lacrosse Falls to Springfield College, 16-2
Springfield, Mass. 4/4/09 - The Clark University men's lacrosse team fell to Springfield College, 16-2, in Pilgrim League action on Saturday in Springfield, Mass.
The Cougars fall to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in league play. Springfield remains unbeaten in the Pilgrim league (2-0) and improve to 4-4 on the season.
Trailing 2-0, Chris Johnson (Amherst, Mass.) put Clark on the board with a bounce shot at the 5:11 mark of the first half. Springfield went up 3-1 after Kyle Gable finished a pass from Jake Beebe at 9:14 of the second period.
After Euguene Arsenault (South Portland, Maine) finished a feed from Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) to make it a 3-2 game with 7:26 remaining in the period, Springfield's offense found its rhythm. SC closed out the first half with three unanswered goals in the final 3:33 to take a 6-2 halftime lead and outscored the visitors 10-0 in the final two periods to secure the victory.
Tyler Campbell (Portland, Ore.) made a season-high 23 saves, before giving way to freshman Andrew DeVito (Glastonbury, Conn.), who made two saves.
Tom Albano stopped just three shots in just over 38 minutes in goal to earn the win for Springfield.
Clark will host Wheaton College on Saturday (1 p.m.).
