Blake and Carter Earn NEWMAC Softball Weekly Honors

WORCESTER, MASS. 03/30/09 - Clark University's Lauren Blake and Sarah Carter have been named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, it was announced on Monday.

Blake hit safely in all six games to lead Clark's offense in a 4-2 week, batting .571 (12 for 21) on three doubles, four runs scored and three RBI. The junior second baseman from Oakland, Maine also recorded a .714 slugging percentage with five multi-hit contests, including a 3-for-3 showing in a 1-0 win against Brandeis University. She also helped the team defensively with 22 putouts and 11 assists with just one error on the week.














In three appearances last week, Carter led Clark to a 3-0 mark with a 1.67 ERA. The Worcester, Mass. product, earned the complete game shutout against Brandeis, hurling seven innings of five-hit ball with two strikeouts. Carter allowed three runs on four hits while striking out three in a 5-3 win against Babson College last Saturday.

Clark will host MIT in a conference doubleheader on Tuesday (3 p.m.).
