NEWMAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week: Li Earns Singles Nod; Gross & Chin Garner Doubles Honor

WORCESTER, MASS. 03/23/09 - Clark University swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's tennis weekly awards announced on Monday. Senior Rocco Li went 2-0 at the number three singles position to earn the conference's singles player of the week honor, while senior Ben Gross and sophomore Aaron Chin won twice to nab the NEWMAC doubles player of the week award.

Li, originally from Hong Kong, China, defeated Bridgewater's Jeff Belleville in straight sets with a 6-1, 6-2 victory last Friday. He later prevailed 6-3, 6-0 in the number three spot against Rhode Island College that helped Clark to a 7-2 team victory. Li also joined classmate Adam Bisceglia at No. 1 doubles to outlast Bridgewater's top pair, 8-3.

Li is Clark's first men's tennis player to receive NEWMAC weekly honors since Anuj Ladha '06 and Nikola Milinkovic '06 in 2004.

Gross, a product of Newton, Mass., and Chin, a native of Hong Kong, China, combined for a 2-0 mark after notching an 8-4 win over RIC on Saturday, before downing the Bears, 8-1, the day before.

Clark (1-1) will travel to Nichols College for a non-conference match on Thursday.
