Baseball Splits Against Moravian

WINTER HAVEN, FLA. 3/4/09 - Sophomore second baseman Peter Lewis (Gardiner, Maine) went 2-for-3 with three RBI and junior Phil DiMarco (Bellingham, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead Clark University to a 10-8 win over Moravian College in the second end of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars (2-6) dropped the opener, 15-2.

The Cougars scored twice in the first inning and three in the fourth to make it a 5-1 game. DiMarco led off the fourth with a single to centerfield, stole second and advanced to third on a failed pickoff attempt. Freshman catcher Joe Krahe (Fairfield, Conn.) singled to third base and also stole second, before Lewiss double to centerfield scored both DiMarco and Krahe. Lewis later took third and scored on a costly throwing error by the Moravian catcher.

After Moravian got a pair back in the top of the fifth to trail 5-3, Clark, which finished the game with five hits, exploded for five more runs in the bottom of the frame. DiMarco and Lewis both had run-producing hits during the uprising.

Freshman Nick Winchell (Scituate, R.I.) picked up his first win of the season. He allowed three runs (two earned), eight hits, walked four and struckout three in five innings of work.

In the opener, Moravian had an 11-run second inning and held on for the win. Clark scored single runs in the third and sixth inning.

Freshman Mitch DeLorenzo (Berlin, Conn.) collected three hits, while junior Brendan Solecki (Portsmouth, R.I.) had two hits to lead Clark.

Senior Matt Tillo (Osterville, Mass.) was the losing pitcher for the Cougars.

Clark will play the Milwaukee School of Engineering in a twinbill on Thursday.
