Records Add Up on Day Two of NEWMAC Women's Swim & Dive Championships

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. 2/21/09 - Clark University broke three more school records for a total of six after day two of competition at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)Women's Swim and Dive Championships at MIT on Saturday.

Liz Rosen, Britney Wigley, Erin Smith and Dana Akerfelds teamed up to set a new Clark mark in the 800-yard freestyle relay. They finished sixth in a time of 8:10.99, just narrowly eclipsing the previous record of 8:11.09 set back during the 1996-1997 season. The Cougars have set new school standards in three relays at this years NEWMAC Championships.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Jess Cullen, Lindsey Stone, Kayleigh Lagasse and Corri Stewart also put in a solid performance with their eighth place finish (1:57.02).

Individual school record-breakers include, Smith's ninth place time in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.28), out-touching her own previous record of 1:59.96 earlier this season, and Akerfelds, who broke an eight-year old mark set by Jaime Armstrong '03 (1:02.23), in the 100-yard backstroke with her seventh place finish (1:00.93).

Stone added valuable points to the board by taking 11th in the 100-yard breast stroke in a time of 1:12.18, while Karissa Senterfit and Lagasse contributed with 12th (5:08.83) and 13th (1:01.53) place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, respectively.

Clark will enter the final day of the meet tied with Wellesley College with 182 points apiece.
