Jackson & Rosen Sweep NEWMAC Swimmer Of the Week Honor
WORCESTER, MASS. 1/12/09 - Clark University's Drew Jackson and Elizabeth Rosen swept the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's and women's swimmer of the week honor, the conference office announced on Monday. It marks the first time this season either swimmer has won the accolade.
Jackson, from Chestertown, Md., won three events to pace Clark to a third place finish at the Wheaton College Invitational last Saturday. The senior swimmer prevailed in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.34), the 100-yard freestyle (49.91) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:00.55). Jackson also swam the third leg in the winning 800-yard freestyle relay in a time of 7:35.94. To date, he has accumulated nine individual victories this season.
A North Attleboro, Mass., native, Rosen's performance helped Clark finish runner-up to host Wheaton in the six-team invitational last Saturday. She was a double-winner, claiming victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:59.12) - where she is just the second woman in Clark history to eclipse the eleven minute mark - and 500-yard freestyle (5:24.85) to add points to the Cougars' 386.5 total. The junior freestyler also joined the 800-yard freestyle relay team in victory with a time of 8:23.25. Rosen, who is the school record holder in the 500-, 1,000-, and 1,650-free, has picked up six wins in individual events this season.
Clark will try to remain unbeaten in dual meets when it takes on Brandeis University on Wednesday, Jan. 21 (6 p.m.) at the Kneller Pool.
