Cross Country Competes at NEWMAC Championship

BOSTON, MASS. 11/01/08 - The Clark University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2008 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships Saturday morning at Franklin Park. The men placed seventh with 195 points, while the women's team finished 10th with 280 points.

For the second consecutive year, MIT swept the men's and women's races to capture the NEWMAC title. The men have now won every NEWMAC championship since the league's inception, a streak that stands at 11. This was the fifth NEWMAC title for the women.

In the 8k race, senior Caleb Evanter sprinted across the finish line first for the Cougars. He placed 33rd in a time of 27:12.14 to pick up his team-leading seventh first place finish for Clark. Other top finishers for the men include, Bob Naughton (67th/29:22.09); Cory Leonard (71st/29:27.12); Patrick ONeil (98th/31:14.58), followed by Joe McClintock (99th/31:23.14).

MIT's Jake Ruzevick was the individual winner for the second year in a row with a time of 25:25.29.

Jacqui Wentz, from MIT, finished the five-kilometer course in 18:28.86 to capture Runner of the Year honors.

Kaitlyn Sephton paced the Clark women with her 55th place finish in a time of 21:28.00. Emma Siemasko took 59th (21:39.11); Amanda Haimes was 83rd (23:03.64); Andrea DeRocco placed 86th (23:08.54), and Brooke Badon finished 99th (24:44.46) to round out Clarks top finishers.
