Volleyball Falls Short Against Wheaton College, 3-2

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/28/08 - The Clark University women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match to Wheaton College, 3-2, on Senior Night Tuesday at the Kneller Athletic Center. Clark lost just its second match in six games to fall to 11-12 overall and 2-6 in league play, while Wheaton lifted its record to 12-19 (2-6 NEWMAC).

After winning the first game, 25-20, Wheaton rallied to take the next two, 25-19 and 25-17. Clark came back to win the fourth set, 25-10, but the Lyons proved to be too much as they came back to win the deciding fifth game by a score of 15-12.

Junior Maritza Fair (Bronx, N.Y.) had a fine overall performance for Clark with 25 kills and 15 digs. It marked her 10th double-double of the year. Freshman Kristin McGinty (Gypsum, Colo.) tied her career-high with 13 kills and five blocks, while classmate Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) finished with 13 kills and five digs.

Junior Lauren Kraus (Westboro, MA) had 12 kills and six aces; freshman Miranda Howitt (San Francisco, CA) had 11 kills, sophomore Becca Rose (Sudbury, MA) had 35 assists and sophomore Kristen Hunt (Milford, CT) had 14 digs to pace Wheaton.

Prior to tonight's contest, senior Karleen Porcena was recognized for playing in her final regular season home game.

Clark will travel to Babson College for its regular season finale on Saturday (1 p.m.). Wheaton will close out its regular season against WPI in Norton, Mass. that same day (1 p.m.).
