Volleyball Posts 1-1 Mark at Tri-Match
WORCESTER, MASS. 10/25/08 - The Clark University women's volleyball team posted a 1-1 mark in its only tri-match of the season on Saturday afternoon at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Clark (11-11) opened the day with a 3-1 win over Pine Manor College. The Cougars won the first two sets, 25-11 and 25-21, but fell in the third, 20-25. The hosts' rebounded to win the deciding fourth game, 25-12.
Junior Maritza Fair (Bronx, N.Y.) registered her ninth double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs to lead Clark's offense. First-years Kristin McGinty (Gypsum, Colo.) and Parker Edmonds (Fort Worth, Tx.) had seven kills apiece, while setter Nichole Lopez (Alameda, Cali.) contributed with 33 assists and 10 digs. McGinty also finished with four service aces.
In the second match of the day, Clark lost to Trinity (13-10) in three-straight sets (25-15, 28-26, 25-18).
The Cougars took their first lead against Trinity in the second match. Trailing 23-19, Clark rattled off eight unanswered points highlighted by four kills from Fair for a 25-24 edge. But the Bantams responded scoring four of the next five points for a 28-26 win.
Three players reached double-digit numbers on defense. Junior libero Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) had 19 digs, while Fair and Lopez added 10 each. Freshman Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass.) finished with 10 kills.
In the other match, Trinity defeated Pine Manor (7-18), 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-19).
Clark will face Wheaton College in its regular season finale on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
