Radovsky Lifts Men's Soccer Past Coast Guard in Double Overtime

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/25/08 - Jeremy Radovsky's (South San Francisco, Cali.) goal with 3:42 to play in the second overtime gave Clark University a 1-0 win over Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game played on Senior Day Saturday at Granger Field.

Clark, ranked eighth in New England by the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, improved to 10-3-2 overall and 3-2-1 in the NEWMAC, while Coast Guard dipped to 8-7 (2-3 NEWMAC).

Freshman Alex Herlich (Andover, Mass.) drove a long ball into the box to set-up the game-winning play. Sprinting down the middle, classmate Adrian Blackadar (Warwick, R.I.) was in position to put the game away, but he was tackled by a Coast Guard defender at the last minute. Radovsky, standing near the right post, took control of the loose ball and coolly tucked it past Bears keeper Tim Olah (Glastonbury, Conn.) for his second goal of the year.

The first half was a quite offensive affair as both teams combined for just three shots. Coast Guard had the best scoring opportunity in the 30th minute, but Nate Wojcik's (East Brookfield, Mass.) breakaway bid was denied by keeper Peter Wise (Providence, R.I.) to keep the visitors off the board.

While the two teams went into the locker room at a stalemate, Coast Guard would return to the field a man-down after sophomore forward Nick Devine (Rocky Hill, N.J.) was issued a red-card in the 34th minute.

Clark could have taken the lead early in the second half. Sophomore Baran Doenmez (Dublin, N.H.) chipped a shot into the chest of a diving Olah at 56:49. Moments later, Radovsky took a cross from Herlich, but his drive sailed wide.

Coast Guard's best chance came when junior Matt Izbicki's (Lisbon, Conn.) blasted a shot from 20-yards out that drifted past the far post in the 64th minute.

Neither team had a shot on goal in the first overtime.

Coast Guard outshot Clark, 2-1 in the second extra session, but Wise preserved the shutout when he stopped Ben Walshs (Suffield, Conn.) direct kick in the 104th minute.

Less than three minutes later, Radovsky notched his second game-winner of the season.

Both teams were even in shots (7), while Coast Guard had the advantage on corner kicks, 5-2.

Wise and Olah finished with two saves apiece.

Prior to today's contest, seniors Ben Wajda, Jenner Alpern, Mike Trobagis and Peter Wise were honored for playing in their final regular season NEWMAC game.

Clark will host Framingham State College in its regular season finale on Wednesday (6 p.m.). Coast Guard will travel to Maritime Academy (N.Y.) for a non-conference game on Monday (7 p.m.).
