Blackadar Leads Men's Soccer Past Wheaton College, 1-0

NORTON, MA- For the second consecutive year, Clark University defeated Wheaton College, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday during Homecoming weekend at Keefe Field. The win marked the first time in eight tries Clark has beaten Wheaton on their home field and just the second victory in 15 attempts overall.

The visitors improved to 9-3-2 and 2-2-1, as six of their last seven wins have now come via a one-goal decision. The Lyons, who are ranked eighth in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), slipped to 8-4-2 overall and 1-3 in league play.

After a foul in the hosts' end of the field during the 24th minute, the Cougars took advantage, as sophomore Baran Doenmez (Dublin, NH/Dublin) caught up with a free kick before sending a pass to freshman Adrian Blackadar (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim), who buried his second goal of the year.

Wheaton was edged out, 4-3 in shots during the opening half before recording an 8-1 advantage in the second stanza, but the Lyons were unable to tally the equalizer, as Clark senior keeper Peter Wise (Providence, RI/Classical) made four saves in the half.

Sophomore Chris Smart (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield) turned aside one shot for the Lyons, and the Cougars were denied on an additional occasion in the second half by sophomore defender David Ferriero (Medway, MA/Medway), while Wise made five saves. Wheaton finished with advantages of 11-5 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.

Clark will host Coast Guard Academy next Saturday at 2:30. The Lyons hosts their final regular season home game of the fall on Wednesday, stepping out of NEWMAC play to take on Worcester State College at 3:00 p.m.
