Cross Country Fares Well at Westfield State College Invitational

WESTFIELD, MASS. 10/11/08 - The Clark University women's cross country team placed eighth and the men's squad finished 13th in the annual James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State College on Saturday afternoon at Stanley Park.

The Cougar women finished with 313 points in the 22-team field. Simone Childs-Walker crossed the finish line first with a time of 18:18.69 to help Carleton College capture the team title (25 points).

Senior Kaitlyn Sephton paced Clark in the 5K race with a 47th place finish (21:22.73). It was her fastest time this season. Junior Emma Siemasko placed 71st (22:10.65), while teammates Alexandra Casey and Andrea DeRocco took 93rd (22:57.26) and 95th (23:01.13), respectively. Senior Amanda Haimes rounded out Clarks top individual finishers (114th/23:37.70).

In the men's 8k, Caleb Evanter placed 24th in a time of 27.36.99. So far, the senior runner has led the Cougars in all five meets this fall. Martin Legget took 73rd (29:11.83); not far behind was graduate student Cory Leonard in 82nd (29:30.13); Bob Naughton was 107th (30:12.12) and Patrick O'Neil finished 138th (31:25.88).

Jason Ayer won the meet in a time of 25:42.32.

Trinity College captured the 21-field invite with 27 points.

The Clark cross country teams will race in the Western New England College Invitational next Saturday.
