Field Hockey Shutout by Springfield College, 5-0

Springfield, Mass. - October 7, 2008 - The Springfield College field hockey team netted three goals in the first 12 minutes of the opening stanza en route to a 5-0 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.

The Pride now stand at 7-4, 3-0 in league play while the Cougars drop to 4-6, 0-2.

Springfield dominated the game from the first whistle as the home squad recorded 46 shots in the game.

Morgan Rein found the back of the cage just under four minutes into the game as she blasted a shot from 15 yards off a feed from Meg Bradley to put Springfield up 1-0 early in the contest.

Springfield went up 2-0 after Jane Kelleher scored just 1:04 later as she took a beautiful feed from Bradley and ripped a shot from 10 yards out.

Kelleher added her second marker of the night with 23:31 left in the first half after she flicked home a backhanded shot into the back of the cage.

Goals in the second half from Lynne Donoghue and Meghan Cole rounded out Springfield's scoring in the game. The Pride also held a 22-0 advantage in penalty corners in the contest.

Alison McCarthy and Kelleanne Salazar combined for the shutout as neither faced a shot in the game. Kathryn Dawsey took the loss for Clark, despite making 22 saves in the game.

Next up for the Pride will be Wheaton on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., while Clark will take on Babson College that same day at 1 p.m.
