Men's Soccer Falls to Springfield College, 2-0

Springfield, Mass.. - October 4, 2008 - Paced behind a pair of second-half goals, the Springfield College men's soccer team blanked the visiting Clark Cougars, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

With the win, Springfield now stands at 4-5-1, 2-1 in league play, while the Cougars fall to 6-3-2, 0-2-1.

After a scoreless first half, the Pride finally netted the game's first goal with just over 25 minutes left in regulation. After a Clark foul just outside the 18 yard box, Myle Tilton (Plymouth, Mass.) wasted no time on his free kick. The senior defender fired a shot into the lower right corner of the net and caught Clark off guard as they were still working on setting up a wall.

Holding a 1-0 advantage, the Pride's John Plourd (Southampton, Mass.) gave the Pride an insurance goal after taking a clever pass from Brett Drake (Enfield, Conn.). Plourd finished his shot into the right side of the net with 1:11 left to play as Springfield won by a 2-0 count.

Kevin Leahy (Cheshire, Conn.) finished with two saves in goal as he recorded the shutout victory. Peter Wise made six stops in goal for Clark as his squad was outshot 14-7 in the contest.

Clark will try to get back on the winning track against Rhode Island College on Wednesday (6 p.m.).
