Volleyball Sweeps Newbury College, 3-0

WORCESTER, MASS. 10/2/08 - The Clark University women's volleyball team swept Newbury College in a non-conference match on Thursday night at the Kneller Athletic Center. Game scores were 25-9, 25-10 and 25-9.

In three games, Clark (5-8) never trailed. Junior Maritza Fair (Bronx, N.Y.) paced the Cougars with 10 kills and six service aces. Sophomore Emily Corbett (Rose Valley, Pa.) had seven digs, while first-year Kortney Kelley (Cummaquid, Mass.) finished with four aces.

Clark opened the night on a 10-2 run, capped by Nichole Lopez's (Alameda, Cali.) ace to cruise to a 25-9 victory.

The hosts then scored six unanswered points to start both the second and deciding third game, eventually winning 25-10 and 25-9, respectively.

Clark will travel to Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday to compete in a tri-match with Rhode Island College. The Cougars will play R.I. College at Noon and Eastern Nazarene at 2 p.m.
