Field Hockey Falls to Williams College

WORCESTER, MASS. 09/18/08 - Williams College erupted for four goals in the first half to post a 6-0 shutout victory over Clark University in non-conference field hockey action on Thursday night at Granger Field. The Ephs improve to 3-1 overall with their third straight victory, while the Cougars drop to 2-2 on the year.

The Ephs had a balanced attack with goals from six different players in the game. Junior Whitney Thayer (Lancaster, Pa.) and senior Jess Overlander (New Canaan, Conn.) netted goals within a 40 second span of each other to give the visitors an early 2-0 lead. Senior Elspeth Macmillan (Portland, Ore.) made it a three-goal game at the 9:58 mark of the half, and senior Meighan McGowan (Greenwich, Conn.) found the back of the net with just over three minutes left in the period to take a 4-0 margin into the break.

First-years Lucy Rollins (Rye, N.Y.) and Katie Ellis (Darien, Conn.) scored the final two goals of the game.

Junior Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) turned aside 17 shots in goal for Clark. Sophomore Katrina Tulla (New Canaan, Conn.) was untested in goal for Williams.

Clark will travel to Nichols College on Saturday (1 p.m.).
