Women's Soccer Drops Second Straight; Falls to Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - The Clark University women's soccer team dropped its second straight game with a 5-0 loss to Trinity College in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. Trinity improves to 4-0, its best start since 2003, while the Cougars drop to 2-3.

Freshman midfielder Jenny Ley (Warwick, R.I.) scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead the Bantams.

Ley opened the scoring on a breakaway eight minutes into the contest and fed sophomore midfielder Morgan Sackman (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) from the left wing for a blast into the upper right corner from 20 yards away in the 37th minute. The Bantams went ahead, 3-0, at the half when senior co-captain back Devin Nwanagu (Westborough, Mass.) converted on a penalty kick with two minutes on the clock. Trinity senior back Amelia Shister (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) had sent a perfect ball up the right sideline to junior midfielder Sarah Basile (North Granby, Conn.), who was fouled in the box before she could get off a shot to set up the penalty chance. Shister and freshman forward Leigh Howard (Bethany, Conn.) assisted Ley on her second goal on a breakaway in the 51st minute, and Howard accounted for the final tally with a rocket from 28 yards out.

Trinity outshot the Cougars, 17-4, and goalies Emily Weedon (Wellesley, Mass.) and Lily Pepper (Princeton Junction, N.J.) combined on the shutout with a save apiece. Junior Joanna Clark (Windham, Maine) and freshman Kellie Barile (Lynn, Mass.) combined for three stops for Clark in goal.

Clark plays host to Brandeis University on Saturday (Noon).
