Volleyball Drops Two Games at Swarthmore College's Garnet Classic

Swarthmore, Pa. 09/13/08 - Clark University suffered its first loss of the season with a tough five-game setback to host Swarthmore College in the 6th annual Garnet Classic at Tarble Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

After dropping the first two games 25-15 and 25-12, Clark stormed back to win the next two 25-22 and 27-25. But Swarthmore proved too much for the Cougars as they took the deciding fifth game, 15-11.

Junior outside hitter Maritza Fair (Bronx, N.Y.) led Clark's offense with 18 kills and 10 digs. First-year Amira Tranchell (Falmouth, Mass) chipped in with nine kills, while senior libero Emily Visone (West Hempstead, N.Y.) finished with 18 digs.

Clark (3-2) dropped a three-game match to Salisbury University in the second game of the Classic. Game scores were 25-14, 25-10, 25-20

First-year middle blocker Kristin McGinty (Gypsum, Colo) had five kills to pace the Cougars. Defensively, Kortney Kelley (Cummaquid, Mass.) and Visone chipped in with 11 and eight digs, respectively.

Clark will play Cabrini College twice in Sunday's finale (10 a.m. & Noon).
