Field Hockey Beats Becker College, 3-0
Leicester, Mass - The Clark University field hockey team improved to 2-1 on the young season with a 3-0 shutout win over Becker College at Alumni Field on Saturday. The Lady Hawks (2-1, 1-0 NECC) suffered their first loss of the fall.
Both teams played a scoreless first half; Becker goaltender Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) had five saves. Clark's best scoring chance came with less than a minute remaining in the first half when Erin Murphy (Boxboro, MA) was credited with a penalty stroke. Murphy's shot was low and outside and Lawrence made a great save to keep the game 0-0 at half.
Clark's Chelsea Proulx (Franklin, NH) mad the score 1-0 when she converted a pass from Carley Corkum (Newbury, MA) six minutes into the second half. Sasha Burgess (Chelmsford, MA) made it 2-0 three minutes later. Freshman Mary Nugent (Worcester, MA) rounded out the scoring for the 3-0 final. Meghan Lennon (Charlton, MA) had two assists for the Cougars.
Goalie Kathryn Dawsey (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was untested in goal for Clark. Lawrence finished with 13 saves for the Hawks.
Clark will host Williams College on Thursday (7 p.m.).
