Women's Soccer Falls to #14 Union College
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. The Clark University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of No. 14 Union College, 2-0, on Friday at College Park. It was the Dutchwomen's third consecutive win.
Sophomore midfielder Caitlin ODonnell (Hampden, MA) tallied the game-winner only 6:19 into the contest. The goal was her second of the season.
Unions first marker was set up by junior midfielder Katie Weinstein, who sent a low pass to ODonnell eight yards out. The assist was the first of the season for Weinstein.
Less than seven minutes later, senior midfielder Chelsea Hargis (East Lyme, CT) made it 2-0 when she deflected a pass at her waist past Cougar goalkeeper Joanna Clark at 13:00. The tally was her second of the season. Freshman forward Jessica Strang (Rotterdam, NY) was credited with the assist, earning her third point of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Melissa McDonald handled both shots in the first half and reigning Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week, senior Sarah Wilson (Wilbraham, MA), kept Clark off the board by protecting a wide open goal and making a team-save at 11:58.
McDonald (3-0-0) shared time in goal with sophomore Abby Stohler (West Hartford, CT). The tandem shared the shutout for the second straight game. Unions shutout streak is currently at 204:03.
Clark made two saves for the Cougars (1-1).
Clark will go up against fourth ranked Western Connecticut College on Tuessday (7 p.m.). Union travels to Rochester on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m.
