WORCESTER, MASS. 5/7/08 - For the second time in their careers, Lauren Blake and Heather Warren have been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) Division III All-New England team, it was announced on Wednesday. Blake earned first-team honors, while Warren received second-team recognition.
A second baseman from Oakland, Me., Blake was honored on the first-team after receiving an at-large selection last year. She topped the Cougars and the conference in hitting (.474) and on-base percentage (.523) and tied for first in the league in hits (55). The sophomore player collected 17 multiple hit games this season, including a team-best 17-game hit streak, as well as a team-high 32 runs scored. Blake also shined defensively with 74 assists to go along with 78 putouts. A two-time New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Star, Blake was named to the conference first-team this season.
Warren, an Upland, Cali., native, joined the second-team after another stellar season. The senior shortstop led the team in three offensive categories, including doubles (12), triples (2) and slugging percentage (.686). For Clark, Warren ranked second at the plate with a .390 batting average and was runner-up in hits with 41, as well as third in homeruns (5) and RBI (25), respectively. Additionally, she finished in the top-10 in the conference in six statistical groupings. Warren also won four games on the mound to help the Cougars. She received All-NEWMAC first-team honors for her efforts.
Both players have made a tremendous impact for the Cougars. Blake tied the school mark for singles in a season (47) last year, while Warren established Clark single season records in homeruns (12), total bases (113) and slugging percentage (.934).
They also helped Clark (21-12) to its first regional ranking since 2002 this season.
