Lacrosse Falls to Curry, 12-9

MILTON, MASS. 03/19/08 - The Curry College men's lacrosse team captured its first win of the season with a 12-9 victory over Clark University on Wednesday afternoon. The Colonels improve to 1-2, while Clark falls to 1-3 overall.

Senior Andrew Webber (Allendale, N.J.) and sophomore Garrett McAdam (Portland, Me.) led the Cougars with three goals apiece. Junior Matt Fram (Metheun, Mass.) and rookies Ben Stuart (Cumberland, Me.) and Sam McAdam (Portland, Me.) each tallied a single goal in the loss. Junior Shawn Roche (Centerport, N.Y.) had three assists in the game.

Senior Ryan Rooney (Newton, Mass.) scored five goals to lead Curry.

Clark trailed by one after the first quarter (2-1) and 6-4 at halftime, but could never gain the lead. Curry outscored the visitors 6-5 over the final two quarters for the victory.

Despite the loss, Clark outshot Curry, 25-19, and held a 26-12 advantage in groundballs. However, the Cougars also failed to convert on a pair of man-up opportunities.

Junior Tyler Campbell (Portland, Ore.) made seven stops in goal for Clark. Senior Alex MacMillan (Framingham, Mass.) had a fine day in goal with 16 saves for Curry.

Clark will play its home opener against UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday (1 p.m.).
