Swimmers Earn NEWMAC All-Academic Honors

WORCESTER, MASS. 03/10/08  The Clark University men's and women's swimming and diving team faired well with nine New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference honorees, it was announced on Monday.

The Cougar women received six NEWMAC All-Academic nods, including seniors Kara Bochicchio (Sherborn, Mass.), a three-time recipient, and Caitlin Hanson (Reading, Mass.), and juniors Jessica Baker (Queensbury, N.Y.), Korin Danchise-Curtis (Reading, Mass.) and Kayleigh Lagasse (Pawtucket, R.I.) and sophomore Corri Stewart (Avon, Conn.).

On the men's side, senior captain Shyamal Asher (Mombasa, Kenya), and sophomores Clarke Reeves (Shelton, Conn.) and Boyd Zapatka (Nonthaburi, Thailand) earned the accolade.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2007 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 10 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S Coast Guard Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
