Softball Takes Two in Florida
FORT MYERS, FLA. 03/05/08 The Clark University softball team posted a pair of wins in its fourth day of Spring Week play on Wednesday in Fort Myers, Fla.
The Cougars (6-2) defeated Eastern University (Pa.), 4-1, in the opener, and then exploded for 19 hits to take a 19-0 shutout victory over Anna Maria College in game two.
In the first game of the day, Clark would score all the runs it would need in the second inning. Sophomore Lauren Blake hit a three-run double and later came home on a wild pitch to take a 4-0 lead.
Eastern plated its lone run in the fourth frame.
Blake finished the game with two hits and three RBI to lead Clark.
Sarah Carter earned her second victory of the season. She gave up just two hits and one run in 3.2 innings on the mound.
In the second game, Darcy Kurashige-Elliot, Katherine Tutela and Joanna Clark led Clark with one homerun apiece.
The Cougars caused the damage with a seven-run second inning and never looked back.
Tutela went four-for-four with three RBI, while Clark went three-for-four with four RBI.
Traft tossed five innings of two-hit ball with three strikeouts to notch her first win of the season.
Clark will face DeSales University (Pa.) and Wisconsin Lutheran College on Thursday.
