Rosen Sets New School Record at Women's Swim and Dive NEWMAC Meet

WELLESLEY, MASS. 02/23/08 - First-year Elizabeth Rosen set a new school record in the 200-yard freestyle in the second day of competition at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship meet held at Wellesley College on Saturday. With her ninth place finish in a time of 2:00.01, the North Attleboro, Mass. native broke the previous mark set by Mindy Craig '98 (2:00.44).

Sophomore Dana Akerfelds and Britney Wigley joined Rosen as top individual finishers for Clark. Akerfelds placed ninth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.34), while Wigley finished 15th in the 200-yard free with a time of 2:04.54.

Cougar relay teams also had solid showings at the races. The 800-yard freestyle relay team of Rosen, Kayleigh Lagasse, Lindsey Stone and Wigley placed sixth in a time of 8:21.14, earning a Clark all-time top-five performance. Akerfelds, Jess Moise, Lagasse and Stone teamed up for an eighth place spot in the 200-yard medley relay (2:00.45).

After day two of competition, the Clark womens team maintains its hold on eighth place with 133 points. Springfield totals 470.5 points after 13 events, while MIT trails with 460. Wheaton College is a close third, with 442.

Clark will compete in the final day of the NEWMAC Championships on Sunday (11 a.m.).
