Women's Swimming & Diving Finish Eighth After Day One at NEWMAC's

WELLESLEY, MASS. 02/22/08 - The Clark University women's swim and dive team stand in eighth place after day one of competition at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held at Wellesley College this weekend.

After six events, the Cougars compiled 60 points. WPI and Mount Holyoke have 56 and 50 points, respectively, for ninth and 10th place teams. Springfield leads all teams with a score of 234. MIT is close behind with 209.5 points, while Wheaton is in third place with a score of 184.

Clark was led by a pair of first-years in individual events. Elizabeth Rosen took 1oth (5:18.07), while Britney Wigley finished 11th (5:20.32) in the 500-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Rosen, Corri Stewart, Lindsey Stone and Dana Akerfelds placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:45.50). The 400-yard medley relay team of Stewart, Jess Moise, Kayleigh Lagasse and Stone took 10th with a time of 1:45.50.

The Cougars will begin the second day of competition on Saturday (11 a.m.).
