Swim & Dive Split against WPI

WORCESTER, MASS. 2/6/08 - The Clark University women's and men's swim and dive team concluded its regular season with a split against WPI on Senior Night at the Kneller Athletic Pool on Wednesday. The women defeated WPI (1-8), 116-109, to improve their record to 5-6, while the Cougar men (3-8) fell to the Engineers, 108-92.

Seniors Kara Bochicchio, Cassandra Crawford, Caitlin Hanson, Jessica Moise, Marjorie Whalen and Shyamal Asher were honored for competing in their final regular season home meet.

"It was a great night for our seniors and their parents," said head coach Paul E. Phillips. "Some of them had lifetime best swims in their last meet at our pool, which made it even more special."

The Clark women won eight out of 11 individual events. First-years Britney Wigley and Elizabeth Rosen led the Cougars winning two events each. Wigley captured both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events in times of 59.17 and 2:04.33, respectively, while Rosen posted wins in the 200-yard individual medley (2:25.11) and 500-free (5:21.06). Other top finishers for Clark included, Corri Stewart in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.61), Kara Bochicchio (Sherborn, Mass.) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.81), Lindsey Stone (Avon, Conn.) in the 50-yard free (26.90) and Lauren Smith (South Pasadena, Cali.) in the 1,000-yard freestyle.

Drew Jackson (Chestertown, Md.) led the Cougar men with a victory in the 200-yard IM (2:08.28) and a second place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.40). Clark came up short in three other races as Mike Smith (Milford, Conn.) (1,000-yd free/10:52.7 & 100-yd breast/1:09.14) and Brian Walsh (Wenham, Mass.) (200-yd free/1:58.93) each took second in their respective events.

Both swim and dive teams are off until their respective conference championship meets. The women will gear up for their NEWMAC Championship Meet at Wellesley College on February 22-24, while the mens league meet will take place February 29-March 2 at MIT.
