Women's & Men's Swimming & Diving Lose to Brandeis
WORCESTER, MASS. 1/23/08 The Clark University womens and mens swimming and diving team dropped a dual-meet to Brandeis University at the Kneller Athletic Center Pool on Wednesday evening. The Clark women (4-6) fell 137-100, while the Cougar men (3-6) lost 121-71.
First-year Britney Wigley (Newport Beach, Cali.) topped the field in a pair of events to lead the Cougars. She captured both the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.13) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.04). Sophomore Corri Stewart (Avon, Conn.) and junior Gabrielle Asay (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) placed one-two in the 200-yard backstroke with times of 2:23.25 and 2:34.79, respectively. In diving events, junior Jess Baker (Queensbury, N.Y.) was second on the 1-meter board (182.10).
The Clark men were led by solid performances from first-year Dan Howard (Bow, N.H.) and junior Drew Jackson (Chestertown, Md.). Howard was the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.14, while Jackson took second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.63). Junior Brian Walsh (Wenham, Mass.) placed third in the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.17) to round out Clarks top finishers.
Both Clark teams will compete at the Worcester City Championships this weekend held at Holy Cross.
