Women's Basketball Tops Mount Holyoke, 76-50
WORCESTER, MASS. 01/12/08 - Junior Sarah Roderigue (Oakland, Me.) notched her third double-double of the season with 23 points, including four three-pointers, and 10 rebounds to lead Clark University to a 76-50 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over Mount Holyoke College in womens basketball action on Saturday at the Kneller Athletic Center.
Clark (5-7, 1-1 NEWMAC) snapped a two-game losing streak with the victory. MHC (2-10, 0-2 NEWMAC) drops its second straight to remain winless in league play.
Sophomore Jillian Camilleri (Lancaster, Mass.) had 15 points, while junior Sara Hagstrom (Yarmouth, Me.) converted a perfect 5-of-5 field goal attempts, including 3-of-3 from three-point range, to finish with a career-high 13 points for Clark. The Cougars point guard also chipped in with a game-best eight assists.
Two players scored in double figures for Mount Holyoke. Senior Marisa Barone (Ludlow, Mass.) had 15 points and a team-high six boards; and first-year Amber Sinicrope (Amherst, Mass.) chipped in with 12 points. Sophomore Jess Olsen (Gilbert, Ariz.) added eight points for MHC.
Roderigue and Hagstrom had 15 and 10 first-half points, respectively, as Clark raced out to a 39-24 half-time lead.
Mount Holyoke opened the half on a 5-2 spurt capped by Sinicropes trey to get within 12 (29-41) at the 16:41 mark, but would get no closer.
Clark outscored the Lyons 19-7 over the next 10 minutes to take a 24-point (60-36) advantage and put the game out of reach.
All 15 Cougar players saw action in the game.
Clark hit 89.5% (17-19) from the free throw line and held a 46-26 margin on the boards.
Clark will travel to league foe Smith College on Wednesday (7 p.m.). Mount Holyoke will play at Emerson College for a non-conference bout on Thursday (7 p.m.).
