All profiles appear as written at the time of induction Elyse Darefsky 79Darefsky was a three year volleyball player (member of Clarks first volleyball team as a sophomore) who helped the Cougars win the 1977 MAIAW State Tournament and served as team co-captain her junior and senior seasons. She returned to coach the volleyball team at Clark in 1980 and remained the head coach until 1986. Darefsky owns a stellar 165-87 record over her seven seasons which saw Clark become one of the top volleyball programs in New England. The team was MAIAW State Champion in 1984 and 1985, MAIAW State Finalist from 1983-8 6 and finished fifth in 1982 in its first ECAC post-season appearance. Clark also appeared in the ECAC Tournament in 1984 and 1986, finishing second both times. The Cougars were consistently ranked among the top ten schools in the New England region. Darefskys 1983 squad set the team record for wins when it finished with a 32-7 record. She was also a four year player on the basketball team and co-captain in her senior year. The womens basketball team finished as the MAIAW State Champion in both 1977 and 1979. Darefsky also played on year on the softball team, which was the first Clark softball team to advance to post-season (MAIAW Tournament). As a senior she finished with a .450 batting average, while leading the team in triples and homeruns. She received the Hazel M. Hughes Trophy in 1979 presented to the senior female who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance has enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics. Darefsky has been an active volunteer for the Clark Alumni Association, serving as president for the past two years. She has also served on the Alumni Council for over 12 years. Fan Gaudette 61Gaudette was a member of the baseball and basketball teams for three years and a member of the soccer team for one year. He captained both the baseball and basketball teams his senior year. As a player on the basketball team, Gaudette helped lead Clark to a 31-36 record, including a 12-4 record in 1961 under Clark legend, Russ Granger. He returned in 1967 to become the head baseball coach and head soccer coach. From 1967-1971, Gaudette built the soccer program into one of Clarks most successful teams, finishing with a 26-9-8 record. He became the head basktball coach in 1969 and in two seasons led Clark to a 22-21 record. From 1971-1978 Gaudette was the assistant basketball coach and head golf coach at UMASS. The basketball team received five bids to the National Invitational Tournament, while his golf teams were crowned New England Champions five times, ECAC Champions three times, and made three trips to the NCAA Golf Tournament. Gaudette returned to Clark as an assistant to Wally Halas for two seasons (1982-83/1983-84) and helped guide the Cougars to the NCAA Division III Basketball Finals in 1983-84. In Gaudettes two seasons as an assistant, the basketball program established an incredible 44-11 record (.800 winning percentage). He has also coached basketball at Easthampton High School, Smith Academy (boys and girls), West Springfield High School, and is presently the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Smith Academy. He was the recipient of the Fred Hebert Trophy in 1960 presented to the senior male athlete who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance has enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics. William Gibbons, Sr 57Gibbons was a four year basketball player who served as team captain in 1957. He was also a member of the baseball team and tennis team for two years, serving as co-captain his senior year. Gibbons earned the Fred Hebert Trophy in 1957 which is presented to the senior male athlete who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance has enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics. After graduating, he served as a teacher and coach in teh Worcester PublicSchoolSystem for 34 years. He served as the Mens Basketball Coach at Becker College from 1961-1969 and Director of Athletics at Becker College from 1966-1969. He returned to Clark in 1967 to become the Mens Tennis Coach and posted an 18-8 record in two years. Gibbons also coached the Boys Varsity Tennis Team at Doherty and North High School (1970-1988), Boys Varsity Tennis Team at Doherty High (1975-1980), and Girls Varsity Tennis Team at Doherty High (1981-1990). A well respected coach, he is a member of the Becker College Hall Of Fame, the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame, and has recently been elected to the Massachusetts Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame. Gibbons is currently retired and is the official basketball scoreboard operator at Clark and Holy Cross and is the shot clock operator at the Worcester Centrum. Tara McGuire '89McGuire was a four year, standout player in the womens basketball program. She was a Kodak All-America selection, team MVP, team captain, and the leading scorer on the 1988-89 team which finished with a 28-1 record (including a perfect 26-0 regular season). The 1988-89 squad also earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. McGuire was named to the NCAA Regionall All-Tournament Team in 1989 and was also selected as ECAC and NEWBA Player of the Year. She is Clarks third all-time leading scorer (1,631 points) and still holds the school record for career free throws (465), and is tied for three throw attempts (17) and rebounds in a game (22). During the 1987-88 season, she was the teams leading scorer and ECAC Tournament MVP, leading the Cougars to the ECAC Championship. In 1989 McGuire earned the Clark Athletic Department Merit Award which recognizes senior athletes who have had a significant impact on their sport. She is currently a 401(K) Account Executive at Fidelity Investments and resides in San Francisco, California. Gabe St. Remy 86One of Clarks most outstanding soccer players, St. Remy was a four-time All-New England selection from 1983-85. A team captain, he was an All-America pick in 1984 and 1985. In 1983, he helped lead the Cougars to an undefeated 14-0-2 regular season as Clark was ranked third in New England and 14th nationally. The team was the ECAC New England Champion in 1984 and reached the ECAC Finals in 1985. In all, St. Remy finished his career with 30 goals, 15 assists and 74 career points. He ended up tied for most career goals (30) and is second on the all-time list for career points (74). During his four years at Clark the soccer programs record was 51-12-11 (.763 winning percentage), including a remarkable 27-4-5 at home (.819 winning percentage). In addition to playing soccer, St. Remy was a contributor to Clarks basketball team, on which he played for two seasons. St. Remy was the recipient of Clarks Fre Hebert Trophy which is presented to the senior male athlete who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance has enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics. He returned to Clark in 1988 to help coach the mens soccer team for two seasons. He is employed by Comp USA Direct, which is located in Marlborough, MA.
