CLARK ATHLETES EARN NEWMAC ACADEMIC HONORS
Nine Clark University winter athletes were named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team, it was announced on Friday.
The Cougar women’s swim and dive team led all winter programs with five Academic All-Conference nods. Sophomores Jessica Baker (Queensbury, N.Y.) and Korin Danchise-Curtis (Reading, Mass.), and junior Kara Bochicchio (Sherborn, Mass.), senior Mackenzie Kamm (Bellaire, Tx.) and graduate student Sara Stephenson (Lusby, Md.) earned the honor. Sophomore Shyamal Asher (Mombasa, Kenya) received the award for the men’s swim and dive squad.
Clark basketball teams were also represented on the NEWMAC Academic team. Senior Ashley Auclair (Williamsburg, Mass.) and sophomore Sara Hagstrom (Yarmouth, Me.) represented women’s basketball, while senior D.J. Brinn (Madison, Conn.) was the lone recipient for the men’s squad.
Honorees must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2006 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution and been a member of a varsity team for the entire season.

SPRING TEAMS OPEN NORTHERN SLATE
The Cougar baseball and lacrosse squads had their respective home season openers spoiled on Tuesday. Baseball, which led 3-1 until the top of the eighth, dropped a close 4-3 game to Fitchburg State College, while men’s lax fell 13-5 to Wentworth Institute of Technology.
The men’s tennis team claimed its first victory of the season with a 6-3 win over Rhode Island College last Saturday. The Cougars swept doubles matches and prevailed in top three singles to earn the victory. In singles play, sophomore Adam Bisceglia and first-year Charlie Sherman won at number one and two, respectively, while second-year player Ben Gross triumphed at the third spot.

SPRING SPORTS SHOWDOWN
Cougar fans can kick off their weekend plans at Clark University, where four spring teams will be in action on Saturday. The softball team will open their home slate with a double-header against Wellesley College at Noon at O’Brien Field, while men’s lacrosse and men’s tennis will host Wheaton College at Granger Field and Corash Tennis Courts, respectively, at 1 p.m. Due to a scheduling conflict, the baseball squad will take on cross-town rival WPI at home at 4 p.m. Come support Clark Athletics!
