Best-selling author Chris Bohjalian and scholar/expert Khatchig Mouradian will present “Narrating Genocide,” a public discussion beginning at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Higgins Lounge in Dana Commons at Clark University.
Organized by the Strassler Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies and co-sponsored by the National Association for Armenian Studies and Research (NAASR), the event will explore the different routes to the past—literature and history—and how each genre informs the other.
Strassler Center Director and Rose Professor Debórah Dwork will moderate the discussion, which is part of the center’s “Critical History” lecture series.
Bohjalian is the author of 17 books, nine of which are New York Times best-sellers. His novel “Midwives” was a No. 1 New York Times best-seller and a selection of Oprah’s Book Club. His work has been translated into more than 25 languages, and three of his novels have become movies. His books have been chosen as Best Books of the Year by several major media. In October, he will be presented with the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) Freedom Award in Philadelphia.
Mouradian is the coordinator of the Armenian Genocide Program at the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University. He teaches history and sociology at Rutgers University as adjunct professor. Mouradian is a doctoral candidate at the Strassler Center, and a Calouste Gulbenkian Armenian Studies Fellow. He served as editor of the Armenian Weekly from 2007 to 2014.
