Dear Alumni:
Thanks to the generosity of Clark’s alumni, parents and friends, we concluded fiscal year 2007 (on May 31) with strong success. The Clark Fund raised over $2 million in support of student financial aid, faculty salaries, academic and extracurricular programs and campus improvements. Undergraduate alumni participation increased from 20% to 23% with young alumni well represented as donors. In addition to annual fund dollars, Clark raised gifts and pledges for endowed scholarships, professorships and capital projects; in all, alumni, parents and friends committed more than $23 million toward Clark’s highest priorities.
Among these gifts was Bill and Jane Mosakowski’s landmark gift of $10 million to establish the Mosakowski Institute; the institute will be located in Clark’s Academic Commons, a dramatic renovation of Goddard Library that will provide technology rich, collaborative learning spaces for students and faculty. You’ll hear more from Clark on plans for the Academic Commons during the coming year.
Please continue to stay in touch with Clark and one another. Your volunteerism for admissions, reunions and regional communities enriches the Clark experience for new and existing members of the Clark family. Thank you in advance for your continued support of Clark. I look forward to seeing you on campus or at a Clark event in your area.

IRA rollover expires on Dec. 30. 2007
At the end of this year, legislation that allows the rollover of IRAs directly to charity will expire. Currently, if you are age 70 ½ or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 directly from your traditional or Roth IRA to Clark University. These distributions to the University qualify towards your minimum required distribution, but are not included in taxable income.
If you have questions or are interested in making a gift from your IRA, please call the Planned Giving Office toll free at 877-252-7510. Additional information can also be found on the Web.

Reunion years ending in 3’s and 8’s – we are looking for you! It’s never too early to start thinking about joining your Reunion 2008 committee. Please save-the-date to come back and join your class on May 16-18, 2008. Clark is looking for alumni volunteers to help contact classmates, plan weekend events, and encourage classmates to contribute to the Reunion 2008 class giving challenge! You can join your committee and get involved today.

Clark Voices Web site is launched
Clark Voices is the University's oral history project. Visit the Web and listen to Clark faculty and staff tell interesting and unique stories about their academic life, campus life and "other life" outside of work. For example, when design instructor Valerie Claff isn’t teaching, she’s singing in old mines and caves with a group of musicians—the acoustics are amazing, she says. By day Gil Pontius is a geography and IDCE professor, but by night he’s juggling sensation Dr. Stardust. Or check out ITS Web Services Manager Chuck Wyatt's VW Beetle and its super fuel-saving engine that uses filtered veggie oil from one of his neighborhood's restaurants.
Every spring Clark undergraduates showcase their research to the Clark community at Academic Spree Day. On this Web page, you can also listen to some of them tell their stories about their academic experiences, such as “facing difficult dialogues,” “life after France,” “teaching across continents,” and “British penny papers.”
Harry and the Potters rock on for literacy
You may already have heard of Harry and the Potters, a punk rock band touring the country this summer. If not, and especially if you have kids, you’ve got to check them out. Clark science student Joe DeGeorge ’10 and his older brother Paul created the Harry Potter-inspired band in their living room when they were kids. But today they are having quite a run, mostly playing their “wizard rock” at libraries to encourage reading and entertaining youngsters of all ages.
Check out the band’s fun Web site to listen to their music, for a list of tour dates near you and summer reading recommendation for kids. In fact, kids who read any of the books on this list and bring a book report to one of the summer shows will get a free Harry and the Potters toothbrush. Harry and the Potters make both reading and brushing a blast!
