Alumni come home to Clark

The third-annual Homecoming CougarFest-Family Weekend was held on Sept. 15–17. Students, family members and alumni united to celebrate the fall with fun and learning.
Of course there were the good old traditions of the annual event—the various sporting events involving alumni and current varsity teams, the fourth-annual Pasticcio Bowl (flag football), a pie-eating contest, open houses, lots of food, and face painting and balloon animals for kids and those young at heart. Older kids created their own works of art in the Craft Studio or headed to the Grind for snacks, a game of Pictionary or PlayStation’s Dance-Dance Revolution.
Once again, a group of wonderful volunteers took a few hours out of their day to clean up University Park.
Some of this year’s offerings were:
The “Discovering Worcester Tour,” hosted by tour guides Kay Bassett, special assistant to the President, and Jack Foley, vice president for government and community affairs and campus services. The tours introduced sightseers to the latest sights and sounds of “Wormtown.” |
The “Young Alumni Chat,” where recent graduates talked to students and parents about their experiences at Clark, as well as how they are using their Clark educations. |
Parents of current students held their own information sessions to answer questions from other parents of Clark students. |
Attendees were offered the chance to sit in on classes in order to get an idea of what is being offered and a feel for different professors’ teaching styles. |
For those into the latest animated TV series, Mike Henry, producer, writer and voice artist on the hit show “Family Guy,” took the audience “Behind the Scenes of Family Guy.” Henry talked about how he created characters, showed outtakes and unseen clips, and discussed careers in television and comedic writing. |
Saturday night, magician and comedian Peter Gross presented his magic and quick wit to the audience. |
A much missed Clarkie tradition—the rope pull—was revived this year and welcomed back with open arms and blistered palms. |
Events were brought to a close with a jazz brunch featuring a performance by the QX string quartet. |
