Field hockey team finishes another record-setting season
The field hockey team finished another remarkable season with a record-breaking 19 wins. Under the direction of Head Coach Linda Wage, the Cougars were 19-4, finished 7-1 in NEWMAC and were conference runner-ups. Goalkeeper Jesse Egan '03 allowed only 13 goals and had a record 15 shutouts. Egan was ranked first nationally in goals against average (.56) and seventh in save percentage (.892). The team ranked seventh nationally in winning percentage (.826), first in scoring defense (.56) and 17th in scoring margin (2.41).
Clark won 10 consecutive games, following a tough 2-1 overtime loss to NESCAC power Williams College. During the winning streak, the Cougars recorded eight consecutive shutouts. The Cougars outscored their opponents 57-13 and fell one goal shy of tying the Clark record for goals in a season. The team compiled an impressive 11-2 record at home on its newly renovated field.
Following a 6-0 win over MIT in the NEWMAC Championship quarterfinals and a 2-0 win over defending champion Mount Holyoke College in the semifinals, the No. 2-seed Cougars fell to No. 1-seed and host Wellesley College, 4-0, in the NEWMAC finals. Clark was selected to the ECAC Championship for the third-consecutive year and earned the No. 1 seed. The Cougars started the tournament with a convincing 6-0 win over No. 8-seed Endicott College and advanced to the championship with a 2-0 win over Keene State. In the championship game, Clark fell to No. 3-seed and conference opponent Mount Holyoke 1-0. In six postseason games, Kristina Richio '05 led Clark with nine goals, one assist and three game-winning goals. She ended the season with 14 goals, two assists and 30 points.
Jess Petitt '04 led the Cougars with 16 goals, 10 assists and 42 points. A NEWMAC All-Conference first team, NFHCA New England Regional All-America first team and All-American second team selection, she scored four game-winning goals including hat tricks against Mount Holyoke and Springfield College. In three years, Petitt has tallied 35 goals, 19 assists and 89 points. She is ranked eighth on Clark's all-time scoring list.
Egan and defender Jane Geary '03 were named to the all-conference and all-regional first team. Egan is also the second player in two years to be named to the NFHCA All-American first team. Forward Julie Mazeika '03 and midfielder Ashley Perez '05 received all-conference second team honors. Mazeika was also named to the all-regional first team and the NFHCA All-American third team. Perez was selected to the all-regional second team. Geary, who started in 21 games, was a key member of the defense while adding a goal and six assists. Mazeika scored 10 goals and had eight assists and 28 points. She finished her career with 41 goals, 14 assists and 96 points in 41 games and is ranked sixth on Clark's all-time scoring list. Perez scored eight goals and had six assists while scoring four game-winning goals.
"We concentrated all season on accomplishing our goals, with an emphasis on consistency in our performance. We can look back and be proud of our record-breaking season," says Wage, who was named the NFHCA New England East Regional Coach of the Year.

- Eli Bass '04 placed 68th in NEWMAC Championship (31:58), and Mike Myers '06 placed 70th in NEWMAC Championship (32:11). Graduate student Beate Born '02 placed 75th in NEWMAC Championship (21:49), and Jen Ericson '03 placed 98th in NEWMAC Championship (22:59).
Men's Soccer
- Overall Record: 4-10-2, 1-5 NEWMAC (seventh-place)
- Key Results: NEWMAC opponent Coast Guard, 1-0; NCAA tournament participant Johnson & Wales, 2-2
- Dana Gilpatrick '06 was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team.
Women's Soccer
- Overall Record: 3-14, 1-9 NEWMAC (tenth-place)
- Key Victories: NEWMAC conference opponent WPI, 2-1; Anna Maria College, 2-0
- Goalkeeper Rebecca Dezan '06 was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team.
Women's Tennis
- Overall Record: 2-10, 0-8 NEWMAC (ninth-place)
- Key Victories: Becker College, 9-0, and Worcester State, 5-4
- Captain Lauryn Christiansen '04 posted four wins at the number one singles position. Justyna Mietelska '06 finished with a 5-6 record at the number six singles position and 5-7 overall.
Women's Volleyball
- Overall Record: 10-19, 4-5 NEWMAC (seventh-place)
- Key Victory: NEWMAC opponent and regionally ranked Smith College, 3-1
- Laura Gagnon '03 was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference second team and was one of 24 seniors selected to play in the New England Women's Volleyball Association All-Star game.
