The 2000 field hockey team set a school record with 15 victories and advanced to the championship game of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Cougars, who finished the season 15-7, entered the tournament as the sixth seed, but opened with an upset win over third-seeded Wellesley College 3-0 on the road. Clark defeated second-seeded Keene State College 3-2 in the semifinals before falling 2-1 in double overtime to defending champion Wesleyan University on a cold and rainy day.
"The 2000 season is a true testament to the players' belief in themselves and their teammates," said 16-year head coach Linda Wage. "The team's success can be attributed to the positive attitude, desire and willingness to work hard."
Tri-captains Lisa Boyington '01, Lynne Bachand '01 and Amber Ronzoni '01 anchored the team defensively on the field and provided outstanding leadership for the young squad. Boyington, a defender and key player on penalty corners, set a single-season record with 14 assists and became the program's fifth player to receive NFHCA Division III All-America honors. Boyington and forwards Lynne Casey '02 and Jessica Petitt '04 were named to the Regional All-America First Team and the NEWMAC All-Conference Team.
