Athletic Hall of Fame inducts new class

On Sept. 28, Clark inducted its ninth class into the Athletic Hall of Fame, which honors outstanding athletes, coaches, administrators and others who have distinguished themselves and the University through Clark's athletic program. This year's inductees were the late Lloyd Anderson '43, Rob Carr '88, Fanny Hector '90, Jason Qua '90 and the late Neil Walsh '59.

Fanny Hector '90,

a four-year basketball stand-out, was the fifth Clark player to reach the 1,000-point plateau. Hector graduated with 1,171 points and currently ranks 10th among Clark's all-time scoring leaders. Hector also grabbed 870 rebounds and 172 steals, blocked a Clark-career record 168 shots and set a school record for blocked shots in a single game with nine. She captained the team in 1989-90 and received many regional and national honors, including Kodak All-America, Kodak All-District First Team, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Player of the Year and New England Women's Basketball Association Player of the Year.

In her four seasons, the Cougars compiled an impressive 91-19 record, including a perfect 26-0 regular season in 1988-89, when the team won the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship and played in the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals. The Cougars were selected to play in post-season tournaments in each of her four years with bids to the NCAA Tournament in 1987 and 1989. The team won the ECAC Championship in 1988 and 1990. Hector received Clark's M. Hazel Hughes Trophy.

Hector holds master's degrees in teaching English and writing and in English as a second language. She has begun dissertation research for her doctorate in rhetoric and linguistics. Hector has worked as the lead academic coordinator at the Institute for Community Development and as a part-time English professor. She and her husband Collins Mason live in Central Texas.

Jason Qua '90

was a four-year member and two-year captain of the basketball team. He finished his career with 1,796 points, which ranks him second among Clark's all-time leading scorers, and broke the school record for number of games played with 109, which has been matched only once since then. Qua was a two-time All-America selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and earned ECAC First-Team and New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) All-New England Team honors. Qua also was named the NABC Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year and received the NEBCA Division II-III Academic Award. He received Clark's Fred Hebert Trophy.

In his four years, Qua helped the team compile an impressive 75-32 record and led the team to three post-season appearances. In 1987, Clark won the NCAA Northeast Championship and was the NCAA National Runner-up. The following year, Clark again earned the NCAA Northeast Championship and played in the NCAA National Quarterfinals. In 1990, the Cougars were ECAC Tournament Semifinalists.
