Academic Support

Academic Advising

Academic advising begins in your first-year at Clark and continues throughout your time here. As a new student, you will be assigned a faculty advisor who will help you select courses and programs. When you declare your major you will select a new faculty advisor from your major department who will coordinate your advising until you graduate. Clark's Academic Advising Center provides:

  • Information about academic programs and policies
  • Assistance exploring or clarifying choice of major
  • Special advisors to help students having academic difficulties to strategize ways to improve their performance
  • Evaluation of transfer courses and assessment of credits awarded
  • Information about petitioning the college board for exceptions to academic policies
  • Advice and counseling regarding learning or physical disabilities
  • Assistance in conveying information about special needs to professors
  • Assistance in obtaining academic and classroom accommodations, if needed

Academic Advancement

The Office of Academic Advancement provides leadership in the design and implementation of programming to promote the success of ALANA and First Generation college students at the University. We promote academic success through the Academic Clark Excellence (ACE) Summer Institute, study groups for first-year students, and peer mentoring for all gateway and perspective courses. Students are welcome to meet with the director and review their academic plan and aspirations.

The Writing Center

Writing is an integral component of a Clark education. Faculty in all disciplines stress writing as a means of reflection, inquiry and argument. As a Clark student, you will be able to take advantage of free one-to-one assistance with your writing at the Writing Center. Our writing consultants will work with you on any piece of writing, from short papers, research papers and honors theses to graduate school applications and resumes. Conferences can focus on different aspects of writing: from grammar, word choice and style to thesis development, coherence and overall organization.

Disability Services

These services are designed to foster functional independence for students with disabilities. The coordinator of disability services offers advising and helps those students who have submitted appropriate documentation to negotiate reasonable accommodations.
