College Cost Reduction Act of 2007 extended the Stafford limits so that all students can borrow up to an additional $2000 in an unsubsidized Stafford Loan. 

Federal Perkins Loan

$4,000 maximum

Interest subsidized while student in school

Federal Pell Grant

$5,350 maximum

Need determined by FAFSA

Must be working towards first bachelor's degree

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

Federal Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG)

$750 for first-year students; $1,300 for second-year students

Must be eligible for Pell Grant; must meet certain academic requirements

Federal National Science & Math Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART)

$4,000

Must be eligible for Pell Grant and have minimum gpa of 3.0; available only to specific majors

Available to third and fourth-year students only

Federal Work Study
