Afford: International Students

'Outstanding education with economic value'—Kiplinger ranks Clark no. 28 out of 100 in 'Best Values in Private Colleges'

Overview

International students are a valued part of our community, and each year a number receive financial assistance to attend Clark—a reflection of the University's recognition of the importance of diversity and strong global commitment. A limited number of awards for international students are offered each year, and competition for this assistance is intense.

Expenses

Expenses for the 2011-2012 academic year are estimated to be about $46,000. The average award this year was slightly over $20,000, which means that most students will pay $25,000-$30,000 per year for their education. Personal expenses such as room and board will, in most cases, be the responsibility of the student.

Financial Assistance

The admissions process for international students is need-aware; Clark does not offer financial assistance to cover the full cost of attendance. It is not unusual for the Admissions and Financial Aid Committee to deny an application on financial grounds. Several applicants each year show excellent academic records but do not demonstrate the necessary financial ability to attend Clark.

Award decisions are made during the admission process, and are based on both merit and need. International students not receiving an award at the time of admission will not be eligible to receive one in future years.

International students are prohibited from working outside the University by the United States government. On-campus employment is limited and part-time per government regulations, and therefore not a significant source of income.
