During the final two weeks the team and I continued to develop a monitoring system for their community development projects. Due to the time restraints, we decided to focus on their Home Based Care program, the goal of which is to prolong the lives of the terminally ill, through the training and support of community-based, volunteer caregivers. The team clarified some of its objectives and picked indicators which would help them to measure their progress.

During the final week we also made two visits to West Chelston, a community within Lusaka where the team had already begun to work with caregivers. On the first visit we sat down with the caregivers, asked them how they would measure the success of the program, and got their thoughts on how best to monitor the Home Based Care program in West Chelston. On the second visit the caregivers introduced me to their patients. The team wanted me to have a clear picture of how the program works at the ground level, so that I could better assist them as they continue to develop the monitoring system over the next year.

On the final day before my departure the team began the two week training, which we had set up earlier in the summer, on participatory methodologies in community assessment and literacy training. I'm looking forward to hearing the team's reaction to the training, and to seeing how it influences the organization's development.
