- Sub-Saharan Africa: Issues and Problems/Lecture, Discussion
The course explores issues and problems confronting sub-Saharan Africa, including the legacy of colonialism, the establishment of nation-states, military rule, democratization, women’s roles, and ethnic and class conflict, civil wars and genocide, the HIV/AIDS crisis, alternative development strategies, the environment, regional conflicts and Africa’s role in the global economy.
