PHYS150
- Statistical and Thermal Physics/ Lecture, Discussion
Introduces the concepts of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics with the goal of understanding the behavior of macroscopic systems on the basis of microscopic theory. Topics include probability, entropy and the second law of thermodynamics, the Boltzmann probability distribution, heat and work, and the first and second law efficiencies of simple engines. Prerequisite: PHYS130. Offered in alternate years.
