Surveys principal Spanish films and filmmakers of the past 50 years in the context of political and social change in Spain. Considers formulation of cultural ideology through franquista cinema in the 1940s and rise of opposition cinema 1950-1975, operations of film censorship, rise of regional film cultures in post-Franco Spain, and auteurism and national/international audiences of Spanish cinema.
