Ecological and historical approach to cultures and cultural change in a global and spatial context. Broad themes and problems of North America are emphasized: adaptation to “natural” environment; culture in prehistory; migration; creation of cultural areas; fire as a cultural artifact; world views of primitive, traditional and industrial culture; cultural landscape; cultural geography of the United States.
